Spread love, it's the Brooklyn Way. A famous man once said, if you don't know who - I encourage you to research, as Mulder always said, "The truth is out there."

I may look like I'm loving my Brooklyn (specifically Bushwick) lifestyle but that's one thing I've noticed photos are especially good at; distorting reality. Truth is, I was a young California girl in a big city and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I signed a lease on a place with people I'd never met and it was a massive learning experience. My little Western eyes were opened up real fast.. Biggie might have been wrong, it's not all love in Brooklyn..

I have since moved out of Brooklyn into a more *royal* borough, I'll let you guess which one ;) Despite all of that BK nonsense, this was my first time ever wearing this outfit #What. I wanted to wear the Rugby dress but it's far too ostentatious for what I do everyday. l decided to challenge myself + attempt wearing it in a setting that was crazy casual, (class @ Parsons.) My go-to method for keeping it low-key is usually wearing my 'holy jeans,' underneath said item. However, when considering the upscale nature of this garment I knew I needed additional pieces. What do you think? Ever owned an item so superficially formal that you wanted to take for a ride someplace super chill? Do ya feel dat? As the homies in the bae say: Yadidimean??

I am free, and when I said that I was me

Flannel: A+F (what?) Necklace: J.Crew, Tank: Dimepiece, Skirt: BCBG, Booties: Sam + Libby

Been a while, have you missed me? I know I missed you. Sometimes life is like that - pressing events occur and take up all your time and energy making it so there is none left to focus on much else. The month of March was wow, a pretty salacious one. I'm still getting over it! I moved again, quit my job, had mid-terms, everyone I know in California came to visit, I went to Colombia, joined the board of a non-profit and somehow I am still alive. But this isn't my diary, this is kellmenow and I'm back with a brand new lay out.. What do you think?!

Change is good. Change is constant but I feel like I've had enough change for at least 365 days. Yes I've grown as an individual, but I'm looking forward to completing my first year of graduate school (how did this happen) + landing a new position + enjoying a nice NYC summa.. Rose on Sundays. Ya dig?

XOXO

When I was first graced with New York's presence as my new home, I was accompanied by one enormous red suitcase (mad thanks to Costco) and two baby suitcases. Rendering my outfit choices limited, at best. At the time, it was a not-so welcomed challenge in the sweltering NY heat. I have always been the kind of gal that feels pangs of anxiety having my clothes in multiple locations. I need them all in the same place. Call me a princess, whatever! Not having this for the first month was unpleasant but I also started to find it fun. How's that for you! I was able to put things together I otherwise would've never thought of. Talk about being pushed out of a comfort zone. As if quitting my job, moving across the country to chase a dream didn't already do that? :)

Pardon all of the kellfies, there were before I made my NY friends! What do you think? Spiked jean jackets and zig zags?

HOW DID KELLMENOW HAPPEN? TELLMENOW TELLMENOW

Truthfully, I was working at LinkedIn and bored out of my mind. I was busy with work, yes, but nothing was satisfying my creative edge. A co-worker commented on how into fashion I seemed and why don't I start a blog? I thought to myself, why haven't I done that already? www.kellmenow.com was born. How did I choose "kellmenow?" Funny story, it was actually already my Instagram handle. I remember in 2011 when Instagram first arrived on my doorstep and a good friend of mine was hounding me to make one (isn't that how it always happens?) However, I was real blocked on creating a cool handle, it was actually insanely frustrating. I remember thinking, "Wow just kill me now.." I think you can see what happened :)

ADVICE TO NEW BORN BLOGGERS, PS: WELCOME!

Don't think you aren't good enough, ever. It's normal to have doubts and a lowered sense of confidence in starting something new that's, well a really big part of your creative self. But guess what: you are good enough. It takes a lot to put yourself out there in line for ridicule. Just getting started is half the battle and already something to be really proud of.

  1. AMBER @ ALL THE CUTE
  2. KIA @ HOUSE OF KTS
  3. ERICA @ EGG CANVAS
