Chunky Necklaces

I am free, and when I said that I was me

Flannel: A+F (what?) Necklace: J.Crew, Tank: Dimepiece, Skirt: BCBG, Booties: Sam + Libby

Been a while, have you missed me? I know I missed you. Sometimes life is like that - pressing events occur and take up all your time and energy making it so there is none left to focus on much else. The month of March was wow, a pretty salacious one. I'm still getting over it! I moved again, quit my job, had mid-terms, everyone I know in California came to visit, I went to Colombia, joined the board of a non-profit and somehow I am still alive. But this isn't my diary, this is kellmenow and I'm back with a brand new lay out.. What do you think?!

Change is good. Change is constant but I feel like I've had enough change for at least 365 days. Yes I've grown as an individual, but I'm looking forward to completing my first year of graduate school (how did this happen) + landing a new position + enjoying a nice NYC summa.. Rose on Sundays. Ya dig?

XOXO

RVMVMBVR WHVN WV WVRV YOUNG?

Necklace: J.Crew; Vest: Krisa (via Gitane!); 'Remember When We Were Young Tank': Cotton On Santa Monica; Jeans: Paige; Leather/Suede Open Toed Booties: Schutz; Photos by: Laura Damian

Since I have recently embarked on this 25th year of life I feel I am now able to say, "RVMVMBVR WHVN WV WVRV YOUNG?" While replacing the "e's" with "v's" for no apparent reason whatsoever. I also can wear jeans with holes in them to my full-time job, I guess that makes my day job pretty cool huh? I chose wisely.

Truth is - you can really wear anything you want anywhere, as long as it's put together. Now let's not take it to extremes. Wearing a prom dress to Superman's Fortress of Solitude, or a Moncler jacket to a Jamaican Beach would be at the very least, vexatious. I have always been a massive fan of pairing high/low fashion. Most of the time that is in reference to wearing Prada with Target, but I think it works here as well. On it's own the commonly referenced, "bro tank", would look like I was walking straight into Fraturday Night. However, paired with the satin black vest and leather/suede booties - the look is put together, completely work appropriate AND fun.

Always remember to be a baller, just because it's not 2003 you can still pop that collar..

So give the high/low fashion thing a try! In the wise words of Dr. Suess,

If you haven’t, you should. Because these things are fun and fun is good.

are zippers hipster?

Chambray Shirt: J.Crew; Zipper Pants: J.Crew; Necklace: J.Crew; Topsiders: Sperry; Photos: Kristine Constantino:

Better some edge than none at all. Revered "Preppys 'R Us," J.Crew did just that to ensue some snare on what would have been a run-of-the-mill pair of purple pants (if purple pants can ever be run-of-the-mill is yet to be determined) By adding just a little golden zipper maybe 8 inches in length from the pant hem to run up the leg.

  1. How fun!
  2. Does this make me look hipster?
  3. Do I care?

CHECK THE ZIPS

Life's a total gas, looking exceptionally more brunette than usual (who am I?)

Now you see how J.Crew does zippers: A whole lot of class, with a touch of sass, perhaps a hipster does not make. What do YOU think? Are zippers hipster? Share your thoughts!

What to do with natural hues

Something I will reveal about myself: I am drawn to bright colors like a moth to a flame. Whenever natural hues or earthy tones would get involved I instantly became very blase. I had resounding feelings that those saturated colors did nothing whatsoever for my complexion or physique. However, lately (in a recent love affair with BCBG) I have been thinking otherwise. So please, follow me down this road less traveled with colors that blend in, with people who never will :)

Log Surfing (?) Failing (?)

Some of us come to earth seeing - some of us come to earth seeing in color.

Reasons why autumnal colors totally work in the summertime:

  1. Summer does not equate b r i g h t, in fact wearing bright colors during summer months are the only time they will blend in, as will you along with them. Who wants to do that?
  2. Bay Area Residents: The weather is consistently moderate, never too hot, never too cold. No extremes means something wonderful: absolutely no limits when it comes summertime wardrobing.
  3. *disclaimer* If I see one more chica wearing florals (I, too commit this crime) just because it is summer I am going to lose it. Do everyone a favor and add a little flavor to the office, change it up!
  4. Have at the muted greens and caliginous shades of brown - these hues look even better on tanned skin ;)
