EYE OF THE DRAGONFLY

MizDragonfly is a line of limited-edition vintage jewelry founded by Karine of Brooklyn. This eclectic collection is the intersection of old Hollywood glam and quirky street style. MizDragonfly has a number of stand out, statement pieces (my favorite kind.) The line caught my eye with their funky knuckle rings that have been red carpet favorites of celebrities such as Lauren Lee Smith, Natalie Brown, Cory Lee and Gabrielle Miller. MizDragonfly jewelry is sold in retailers all over the world and regularly featured in magazines such as FLARE, Dress to Kill, Tatalum, GlassBook, Factice, 1968 and Superior.

Three pieces tickled my fancy more than the others. What do you think of my choices?

(It's vintage)

Currently this FURRIFIC babe is retailing for $65 and worth heaps more than that. This ring is one-of-a-kind AKA ultra limited edition. Notice the vintage Italian golden disk accent that adds to the sophistication and beauty of the piece. I am an advocate of absolutely zero fur, but this rabbit fur is recycled - so if you NEED to get your fur fix, please use this ring to satiate.

Spiked heels not for you?

These Farrah Spikes are now your newest obsession

Limited edition earrings with gold plated spikes on brass hoops.  What more could you ask for I mean seriously? These Farrah Spikes are what dreams are made of. Worried about the weight of these babes? Don't, they are as lightweight as they are gorgeous.

You know you love it!

This Herrara Ring is exceptionally special. It was created from a recycled golden belt buckle + vintage green/purple suede. Does it feel a touch Mayan to you? It does to me. May it bring us good fortune for the end of 2017.

Thanks for joining me upcycle heaven courtesy of MizDragonfly and her dope Brooklyn bling!

Since moving to New York 1.5 years ago I have officially lived in 3 of the 5 boroughs, all within the first 11 months. Let me you tell you it is just as bad as it sounds, if not worse. But you know what it taught me? That moving, despite mental health professionals placing the extreme emotional stress it causes on par with death of a loved one and divorce, is something I can do all by myself. In a big way. I am actually pretty proud of myself for figuring it all out without the help of anyone else. Good to do before I moved abroad? :-)

Impressed by the interiors of the real estate office I visited after 4 months of living in BK [trying to leave]

Do I wish this experience on anyone? Absolutely not. And if I'm honest I would have done some things differently so as to avoid the frequency of my moves. Did it make me stronger? Hell yeah. Did it give me more confidence in myself? Definitely.

The first place I landed was in Bushwhack, Brooklyn. I tried to make it work as long as I could. To be honest - it's not worth it. As a place, it's far removed and terribly inconvenient if you have to be in Manhattan everyday for school/work. Positives: extremely diverse population [aka I was oftentimes the only white person,] the long commute gave me time to reflect and think, trains derailed from entering Manhattan taught me extreme patience and most of all living in such an uncomfortable place allowed me to have profound appreciation for my current situation.

#1 LESSON:

If you always have it good you don't know how good you have it

Spread love, it's the Brooklyn Way. A famous man once said, if you don't know who - I encourage you to research, as Mulder always said, "The truth is out there."

I may look like I'm loving my Brooklyn (specifically Bushwick) lifestyle but that's one thing I've noticed photos are especially good at; distorting reality. Truth is, I was a young California girl in a big city and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I signed a lease on a place with people I'd never met and it was a massive learning experience. My little Western eyes were opened up real fast.. Biggie might have been wrong, it's not all love in Brooklyn..

I have since moved out of Brooklyn into a more *royal* borough, I'll let you guess which one ;) Despite all of that BK nonsense, this was my first time ever wearing this outfit #What. I wanted to wear the Rugby dress but it's far too ostentatious for what I do everyday. l decided to challenge myself + attempt wearing it in a setting that was crazy casual, (class @ Parsons.) My go-to method for keeping it low-key is usually wearing my 'holy jeans,' underneath said item. However, when considering the upscale nature of this garment I knew I needed additional pieces. What do you think? Ever owned an item so superficially formal that you wanted to take for a ride someplace super chill? Do ya feel dat? As the homies in the bae say: Yadidimean??
