As an ambassador for re/make I have the distinct privilege of being exposed to incredible women doing exceptional things often. It’s something special. When our community lead asked if we would be interested in styling/wearing/posting about the Bay Area based sustainable brand, Indigenous, I jumped at the opportunity.

Indigenous creates ethical clothing for men and women, their tagline below resonates with me on a deeper level,

You believe that all people matter. So do we.

Indigenous adheres to fair trade standards and works only with artisans in Peru. Material-wise, Indigenous uses only natural and organic fibers: such as certified organic cotton, and eco-friendly Tencel. In addition to utilizing the most sustainable of raw meterials, Indigenousdying process is top notch with GOTS and Oeko-Text Standard 100 dyes.

Why do I choose to wear Indigenous over other brands? Because I wear my values on my sleeve, literally. I pay immensely close attention to each and every product I purchase. I know how powerful my choices are, I know how powerful I am, I know how powerful we are together. Did you know that on average 100 human hands touch our clothing before we see it in a store or online? Hear about how the garment industry employs 60-75 million women and men (but mostly women) around the world making our clothes? These are not small, insignificant numbers. Being the naturally curious writer, storyteller, person that I am, I am always trying to learn more about these 75 million people. I want to wear clothes that I am proud of, that have a story, that have substance, that I can be certain the person on the creating end was treated fairly. Fast fashion isn’t cheap, even if it seems that way. I can assure you that someone, somewhere, is paying. By carefully choosing what I wear, I continue to inform and excite others about sustainable fashion. Clothing effects each of us and collectively, we can make better choices that altogether, create a massive impact.

Thank you to re/make and Indigenous for providing the tools, resources, clothing, and knowledge to help further the message and mission of why the world needs more sustainable fashion.
